Quick & Easy Malabar Recipes

Kaai Curry / കായ് കറി / Pal Vazhakka is a Malabar special dessert prepared using ripe banana. Kaai is the malayalam word for banana.

Kaai Curry is commonly prepared during the Ramadan. It is a common Iftar menu in Kerala and this version is super easy and quick one.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Ripe Banana / Nenthrapazham - 1 no (cut into small pieces as round shape)
  • Ghee - 4 tsp
  • Sugar - 3 tsp
  • Shallots - 3 nos (chopped)
  • Cardamom powder - a pinch
  • Cashew nuts - 10 nos
  • Raisins - 10 nos
  • Salt - a pinch

Method

Step 1

Heat 3 tsp ghee in a non stick pan and add chopped shallots and fry for 3 minutes. To this add the coconut milk and rice flour and stir continuously for 5 minutes.

Step 2

After 5 minutes add banana pieces, milk, sugar and stir well for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add cardamon powder, salt and mix well. Tasty kaai curry is ready.

Step 4

Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan and fry cashew nuts and raisins.

Step 5

Decorate the kaai curry with fried cashew nuts and raisins.

Step 6

Serve warm or refrigerated Kaai Curry / Pal vazhakka. Enjoy!!!
