The beauty of Meen mulakittathu, which is a south Indian Fish curry. It is easy to prepare with simple ingredients. You can use any variety of Fish, while I have used King Fish Here.

Ingredients

  • Cleaned Fish - 1 kg
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder - 3 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind pulp - 5 to 6 tbsp
  • Tomato cut into 6 pieces - 1
  • Green chilli - 4
  • Curry leaves - 10 to 15
  • Water - 3 cups
  • For seasoning:
  • Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 10

Method

Step 1

Mix red chilli powder, turmeric powder, tamarind pulp in 3 glass of cold water.

Step 2

To this mixture add tomato, green chilli and curry leaves and allow to boil for 7 minutes.

Step 3

Then add fish to the boiling curry and allow it to boil again for 10 minutes so that the curry thickens, the fish gets cooked and the gravy become dark red.

Step 4

Then switch of the flame and season the curry with by adding curry leaves and coconut oil on top. If u keep the curry overnight and use on next day, the gravy will stick on the fish and will taste amazing with variety of breads and steamed parboiled rice.
