Mutta Surka Recipe

Mutta Surka is a special dish from the Malabar region in Kerala made from matta rice and egg. This is a delicious tea time snack. It goes well with chicken curry, mutton curry, beef curry etc.

Matta Rice is also a great source of magnesium. Magnesium is an important macro-mineral required every day for good health. It is used in several enzymatic reactions in your body, and its deficiency can lead to multiple health conditions. Due to the lower content of fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, Matta rice is heart friendly, Its nutrient-rich coat contains generous amounts of Vitamin A, and some forms of Vitamin B.

Ingredients

  • Matta rice or Kerala red rice - 1 cup or 200 gm
  • Egg - 2 nos
  • Coconut milk - 3 tbsp
  • Coconut oil - 250 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Soak rice in water for 5 hours or overnight.

Step 2

Wash the rice 3 times in water and drain the water.

Step 3

Grind it into a thin paste by adding coconut milk, using mixer grinder.

Step 4

Beat the eggs with a spoon and mix it with rice batter. Add salt and mix well.

Step 5

Heat coconut oil in a pan, pour a spoon full of batter into the oil and deep fry until it turns golden brown colour on both sides. switch off the flame. Drain the excess oil with a tissue paper.

Step 6

Tasty Mutta surka is ready to serve. Serve it hot with mutton, beef or chicken curry.
