Prawn Stir Fry – Chemmeen Ulathu – Kerala Style Recipe

Prawn is an all time favorite with Keralites. Actually more time is needed in its cleaning process. It is quite easy to make this tasty Prawn Stir Fry when Prawn is cleaned. The vein like string appearing in a prawn is actually its internal organs and intestine. If not cleaned thoroughly it may leave a bad taste and it causes indigestion.
Here, I am sharing a typical Kerala dish prepared with prawns that can be made with less ingredients and less time. This goes well with rice as side dish.

Ingredients
- Prawns - 1/2 kg
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1/8 tsp
- Onions - 1 no
- Ginger - 1 tsp
- Garlic - 24 flakes
- Gambooge - as required
- Curry leaves - 1 string
- Salt - as required
- For seasoning:
- Coconut oil - 1tbsp
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Onion - 1 no
- Curry leaves - 1 string
Method
Step 1
Clean and wash the prawns thoroughly.
Step 2
Mix red chilly powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, onions, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, gambooge and salt with prawns. Add sufficient water and cook till the prawns are soft, but not broken. Allow water to be absorbed by prawns. When curry is almost dry and prawns covered with masala, remove from fire.
Step 3
Heat a pan with oil and mustard. When it splutters, add onions, curry leaves and saute well till the raw smell of onion goes off. Add prawn mixture into it and saute till it is well seasoned. Remove from fire.
Step 4
Tasty Prawn Stir Fry is ready to be served.
