Vermicelli Upma Recipe – Tasty Semiya Upma
Vermicelli Upma is a simple and easy breakfast recipe. Vermicelli is made out of maida that is grounded from a very hard wheat. Vermicelli is known as Semiya in Malayalam. Semiya are used in a number of dishes including a variation of kheer, a sweet dessert similar to rice pudding.
Vermicelli are also used in many parts of India to make a popular dish called upma. To prepare it, dry oil-roasted vermicelli are boiled with a choice of vegetables.
Vermicelli is a traditional type of pasta round in section similar to spaghetti. These are relatively low in cholesterol and carbohydrates. .

Ingredients
- Semiya(Vermicelli) - 1 cup (roasted )
- Onion - 1 no(chopped)
- Beans - 1/4 cup (chopped)
- Carrot - ¼ cup (chopped)
- Ginger paste - 1/4 tsp
- Garlic Paste - 1/4 tsp
- Green Chillies- 2 nos(chopped)
- Coriander leaves - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
- Pepper powder - one pinch
- Water - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - 4 tsp
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Heat 1 cup of water in a pan add salt. When the water boils add semiya and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Pour the vermicelli into a strainer to drain completely. Keep aside.
Step 3
Heat vegetable oil in a pan add onions and fry for 3 minutes. Now add the green chilies, garlic and ginger. paste and mix well.
Step 4
Add carrots, beans, and mix well. Add red chilly powder,pepper powder and coriander leaves and mix well.
Step 5
Lower the flame and add the cooked semiya to it. check salt. This time you can also add salt. mix well. Place lid and cook over low flame for 5 minutes.
Step 6
Switch off the flame and semiya upma is ready.
Step 7
Serve semiya upma hot.
