Sooji Halwa Recipe

Sooji Halwa is a simple yet delicious sweet. It is sweetened semolina fried in ghee and garnished with nuts. It is also popularly known as Kesari Bath in the south region and Sheera in the northern region of India.

Rava is used extensively in Indian cuisines. Semolina / Rava is high in protein, very high in complex carbohydrates and fairly high in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium and fiber. Being a low-fat and high carbohydrate food, it offers a lot of energy.

Ingredients

  • Rava / Sooji - 1 cup ( 200 gm )
  • Milk - 1 cup ( 150 ml )
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup ( 50 gm )
  • Ghee - 1/2 cup ( 50 gm )
  • Raisins - 10 nos
  • Cashew nuts - 10 nos

Method

Step 1

Heat a pan and add 2 tsp of ghee and fry the raisins and cashew nuts on a medium flame. Keep this aside.

Step 2

Heat ghee in a non stick pan and add rava to this and fry for 4 minutes on a medium flame. Keep the fried rava separately in a plate.

Step 3

Boil milk in a pan. Add fried rava into it little by little and stir well for 10 minutes on a low flame.

Step 4

When the rava is cooked, then add sugar into it little by little stirring continuously.

Step 5

Keep on stirring till the whole mixture starts thickening and starts to leave the edge of the kadai or pan. Switch off the flame.

Step 6

Add fried cashew nuts and raisins into it.

Step 7

Tasty Sooji Halwa is ready.
