Tharavu Pal Curry is a traditional kerala dish and it is an inevitable dish during the time of Christmas. This curry is commonly known as a Christian dish and found in every occasions like Wedding, Christmas, Easter feasts.

Tharavu Pal Curry is one of my favourite dish which I usually prepared at the time of Christmas. I got this recipe from my mother-in-law and I want to share this recipe with you too. So serve Tharavu Pal Curry in this Christmas and make this occasion really, really a good one.

Ingredients

  • Duck - 1/2 kg
  • Coconut - 1 cup (first milk)
  • Coconut - 1 1/2 cup (second milk)
  • Big onion - 2 nos (sliced)
  • Green chilly - 3 nos (slit)
  • Garlic - 6 cloves (chopped)
  • Ginger - 2 tsp (crushed)
  • Curry Leaves - 1/2 cup
  • Cloves (Grambu) - 3 nos
  • Cinnamon sticks - 2 nos
  • Shallots - 4 nos (chopped)
  • Ginger paste - 2 tsp
  • Green chilly - 3 nos (crushed)
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1tbsp
  • Meat masala - 4 - 5 tbsp
  • Coconut oil - as required
  • Salt - as required

Method

Step 1

Wash and clean duck meat.

Step 2

Take a pressure cooker, add duck pieces and mix it with second milk (rendampalu), ginger crushed, shallots, green chillies crushed, salt, cinnamon, cloves and little curry leaves. Pressure cook it. (2-3 steams)

Step 3

Heat a pan with oil, add ginger paste, garlic, onion, curry leaves, greenchillies. Saute it well until the onion changes to light golden color. Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder, meat masala and saute for few minutes under a low flame.

Step 4

Add cooked duck meat with gravy. Let it becomes a thick gravy.

Step 5

Add first coconut milk (onampalu) and make a thick gravy. Add salt if required and remove from flame.

Step 6

Tasty tharavu pal curry is ready to serve with rice, kappa or appam.
