Chilly Soya Chunks Recipe

Chilly Soya Chunks is a popular choice of Indo-Chinese appetizer for many vegetarians. Kids and adults alike love the taste of Chinese dishes. Vegetarians can make delicious Chinese dishes simply by using soya chunks. Soya chunks are also known as textured vegetable protein and soya meat. They are made from the soybean flour that is left behind after the extraction of oil from the soybean.

Soya chunks gives you all essential amino acids along with vitamin B, folate, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, iron and fiber that improves overall health and reduces cholesterol. For vegetarians it is the best alternative to meat and fish as a source of excellent proteins. It’s a good source of minerals namely- manganese, iron, calcium and magnesium. Due to good fiber content, it helps you keep a close check on your body weight and fight diabetes. Its high content of magnesium has shown results in fighting insomnia.

Ingredients

  • Soya chunks - 100 gm
  • Green chilly - 3 nos
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Tomato - 1 no (chopped into squares)
  • Onion - 1 no (chopped into squares)
  • Capsicum - 1 no (chopped into squares)
  • Soya sauce - 1 tsp
  • Tomato sauce - 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilly - 5 nos
  • Spring onions - a few
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp
  • Water - 450 ml
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Heat 400 ml of water and a pinch salt in a pan and bring to boil.

Step 2

Add soya chunks into it and switch off the flame. Cover with a lid and leave it aside for 20 minutes. Drain it in a colander and wash it with cold water. Now squeeze of the extra water with your hands.

Step 3

Heat oil in a pan and add dry red chilly and fry for a minute. Add chopped onions, tomato, spring onion, capsicum, green chilly and ginger garlic paste into it. Fry for another 3 minutes on medium heat.

Step 4

Add soya chunks and salt to this and cook for 5 minutes on a low flame.

Step 5

Add soya sauce, 50 ml of water and tomato sauce into it and mix well. Cook this for 5 minutes on a medium heat and then lower the heat. Close it with a lid and cook for 5 more minutes. Switch off the flame.

Step 6

Tasty Chilly Soya Chunks is ready.
