Koorka Cutlet / കൂർക്ക കട്ട്ലറ്റ് is a variety cutlet made with Chinese Potato or Koorka. It is a quick, spicy and delicious evening snack that can be prepared very easily. Try out this yummy and healthy cutlet at your home.

Koorka / Chinese Potato is a popular tuber in Kerala. This can be prepared in most of the ways that potatoes can be prepared. It is a rich source of calcium, vitamin A and iron. In both India and Africa, a preparation of its boiled leaves is used as a treatment for Dysentery.

Ingredients

  • Koorka (Chinese Potato) - 250 gm
  • Onion - 1 no (chopped)
  • Green Chilly - 3 nos (chopped)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Kashmiri Red Chilly Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander Leaves - 1 string (chopped)
  • Garam Masala - 1pinch
  • Bread Crumbs - 1/4 cup
  • Egg - 1 no
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Curry Leaves - 1 string (chopped)
  • Sunflower Oil - 2 cup
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

To clean the Koorka / Chinese Potato, put it in a cloth bag or a sack and gently hit few times on a hard surface or on the floor. The skin will get separated in this process. If there is any excess left, scrape off with a knife. Wash it thoroughly and cut into small pieces.

Step 2

Heat a pan and add koorka, turmeric powder, water, salt and cook until it is soft. Then mash the cooked koorka with a spoon or fork.

Step 3

Now heat 4 tbsp of oil in a non stick pan and splutter mustard seeds. Then add ginger garlic paste into it and saute until the raw smell goes.

Step 4

Then add finely chopped onion, green chilly, coriander leaves and curry leaves into it and saute until the onion become golden brown in colour.

Step 5

Now add turmeric powder, kashmiri red chilly powder, garam masala and salt into it and mix well for few seconds. Then add the mashed koorka into this masala and mix it well. Switch off the flame.

Step 6

After cooling this mixture, take small portions and roll it into round shape.

Step 7

Beat egg well with a spoon and keep it in a small bowl.

Step 8

Put bread crumbs in a plate and keep aside.

Step 9

Dip each koorka cutlet into the egg and then roll it in the bread crumbs. Do the same procedure with rest of the koorka mixture.

Step 10

Heat oil in pan and fry the cutlets by turning both sides.

Step 11

Drain the excess oil with a tissue paper.

Step 12

Tasty Koorka Cutlet is ready.

Step 13

Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
