Muringa Poovu Thoran is a quick and simple dry vegetarian side dish made with the drumstick flower which is highly nutritious and good for health. This is a delicious vegetarian dish and a nutritious one.
Health benefit of muringa flowers is that it treats urinary infections, boost immunity treats, inflammation and muscle diseases. Muringa flower contains vital amino acids and are excellent source of calcium and potassium.
Muringa flowers are considered a delicacy in many places.They are often mixed into other foods. You can mix the flowers in salads or fry the flowers in oil and eat the fried flowers as a snack. Especially popular is Muringa oleifera tea. The flowers sit in hot water for at least five minutes to let the distinctive flavor brew. The Muringa flowers tea is considered to have nutritional benefits and to be a powerful medicine.
- Drumstick flowers - 2 cup
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Cumin seed - 1/4 tsp
- Green chilly - 3 nos
- Shallots - 4 nos
- Dry red chilly - 4 nos
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves - a few
- Water - 50 ml
- Coconut oil - 3 tsp
- Salt to taste
Separate the drumstick flowers from stalks. Place them in a bowl of turmeric water. Drain after 15 minutes.
Grind grated coconut, sliced shallots and cumin seeds to a coarse mixture.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and splutter mustard seeds. Add the dry red chilly and curry leaves.
Add the drum stick flowers and salt. Sprinkle little water and cook covered for about 5 minutes. Now open the lid and add the coconut mixture. Cook covered for another 3 minutes.
Open the lid and cook for another 3 minutes or until it is dry. Switch off the flame.
