Pacha Manga Curry Recipe / പച്ച മാങ്ങ കറി / Raw Mango Curry Recipe is a traditional Kerala side dish recipe, especially for Kerala / Onam sadya. I prepare this always, as my family is very fond of it. If Pacha Manga Curry / പച്ച മാങ്ങ കറി / Raw Mango Curry is there, I don’t want any other dishes to finish my lunch. It is a good side dish to serve in Kerala / Onam sadya. Raw mango gives the natural sourness and flavor to the dish which makes the dish super delicious. Raw mango is one of the healthiest fruits that you can find easily. It is said that raw mangoes help in weight loss and is good for diabetics. But do not consume raw mango without draining its milk or sap. The intake of sap will cause gastro-intestinal, throat and mouth infection.
Ingredients
- Raw Mango - 2 nos (medium size)
- Onion - 1 nos (sliced)
- Ginger - 1 piece (chopped)
- Garlic - 3 cloves (chopped)
- Green chilly - 3 nos (chopped)
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Coconut milk (thin) - 1 1/2 cup
- Coconut milk (thick) - 1 cup
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Shallots - 3 nos (chopped)
- Dry red chilly - 3 nos
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Coconut oil - 5 tsp
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Clean the raw mango well with water. Peel and slice the raw mango to medium sized slices. Keep aside.
Step 2
Take a bowl and add sliced onion, chopped green chilies, chopped ginger, chopped garlic, 1 tsp of coconut oil and little salt. Mix well and set it aside for 5 minutes.
Step 3
After 5 minutes, add raw mango, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander powder. Mix well and keep it aside for another 5 minutes.
Step 4
Heat a pan and transfer this mix to the pan. Add thin coconut milk and cook till the mango slices become tender and the gravy becomes thick in a medium flame.
Step 5
Add the thick coconut milk to the curry on a low flame. Do not allow it to boil. Switch off the flame.
Step 6
Heat coconut oil in another pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, dry red chilly, curry leaves and sliced shallots. Fry till the shallots turn golden brown. Switch off the flame and pour this over the curry.
Step 7
Tasty Pacha Manga Curry is ready. Serve hot with steamed rice.
