Purple Cabbage Thoran or Cabbage Stir Fry is a delicious side dish with cabbage, coconut, red chilly etc. It is a very easy to make and quick side dish.
Purple cabbage, more commonly known as red cabbage is a colourful variety of cabbage that has a relatively high ratio of nutrients and vitamins which makes it an ideal choice for dieters.
A 1-cup serving of Purple Cabbage provides about 6 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of dietary fiber. It has a low caloric density compared to other foods. A 1-cup serving of chopped raw purple cabbage contains only 28 calories.

Ingredients
- Purple cabbage - 250 gm
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Shallots - 4 nos
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Dry red chilly - 5 nos
- Mustard seed - 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves - 2 string
- Coconut oil - 4 tsp
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Wash and chop the purple cabbage.
Step 2
Grind together coconut, dry red chilly, cumin seed and shallots in a mixture grinder.
Step 3
Heat coconut oil in a non stick pan and splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves. Saute for a minute.
Step 4
Add coconut mixture into it and cook for 3 minutes.
Step 5
Add cabbage, salt and turmeric powder into it and mix well.
Step 6
Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes on low flame. Stir occasionally. After 5 minutes remove the lid and stir fry for another 3 minutes.
Step 7
Switch off the flame.
Step 8
Tasty Purple Cabbage Thoran is ready.
