Padavalanga thoran with chemmeen

Snake gourd ( Padavalanga in Malayalam ) is very high in water satisfied andย has a cooling effect on the body, hence this summer vegetable that nature provides in such a timely behavior helps in handling the summer heat.

Normally uses small prawns for this dish which makes it more delicious. Also ย a lot of fiber ย than can help maintain your digestive region healthy. The fiber has a cooling effect on the body also helpful for those with diabetes.

Snake Gourd Prawn Thoran is served with rice.

Ingredients

  • Snake gourd - 1/2 kg
  • Prawns - 1/4 kg
  • Grated coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Shallots - 5 nos
  • Green chillies - 3 nos
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly flakes - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 2 sting
  • Coconut oil - 4 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Peel the snake gourd , wash and cut into small pieces. Clean the prawns and wash with water.

Step 2

Heat a pan, pour 4 tsp of oil, add choppd shallots, chopped green chillies and red chilly flakes and fry for 3 minutes.

Step 3

Add grated coconut and saute for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes add snake gourd pieces, prawns and salt and allow to cook on low flame with lid covered till the snake gourd pieces and prawns turn soft.

Step 4

After 10 minutes remove the lid and allow to cook on medium flame for about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Tasty snake gourd prawn thoran is ready to be served with hot rice.
