Spicy Mathi Fry / Sardine Fry – Kerala Style Fish Fry

Spicy Mathi Fry / Sardine Fry is so simple to make, So I am categorizing this as a bachelor’s special 🙂
One of the best combinations with Mathi Fry is Puttu which is steamed rice cakes. All we need to do is marinate the fish with masala and fry. Adding rice flour will make the fish fry crispy. Watch the cooking video at: CookeryShow
I am making Puttu, that is steamed rice cakes also along with fish fry. You can see a wet cloth wrapped down the Puttu steamer. This is a tip that helps steam to get captured inside the steamer. Click here for Puttu Recipe

Ingredients

  • Mathi / Sardine - 1 kg
  • Chilli Powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Rice Flour - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 10 tbsp or as per your pan size
  • Salt for taste

Method

Step 1

Add Chilli Powder, Turmeric Powder, Rice Flour and Salt to the fish and mix well. If you feel that the masala is dry, add little water and mix well.

Step 2

Add oil to a frying pan and fry the marinated fish. Cook both sides and remove it from oil.

Step 3

Spicy and yummy Mathi Fry is ready.
