King Fish Ney Meen Peera Pattichathu Recipe / നെയ്യ്മീൻ പീര പറ്റിച്ചത് is a traditional Kerala fish recipe which is my family’s favorite dish. It is an excellent and very popular seafood dish. You can serve it as a side dish for lunch or dinner and experience a delectable feast. It also tastes so good with rotis too.

The main ingredient of this dish is the masala which is prepared with grated coconut, shallots, fennel seeds and green chilies. The masala has a nice aroma and flavor which enhance the taste of the dish.

Ingredients

  • King Fish - 250 gm
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Shallots - 5 nos
  • Green chilly - 6 nos
  • Ginger - 1 small piece (chopped)
  • Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Kudampuli or gambooge - 1 piece
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Coconut oil - 5 tsp
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Clean the fish and cut into small cubes.

Step 2

Coarsely grind the grated coconut, shallots, fennel seeds, green chilies together in a blender to make masala.

Step 3

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When they spultter, add curry leaves, ginger and coconut masala. Saute for 3 minutes.

Step 4

Add fish pieces, gambooge, salt, water and cover with a lid. Cook this for 10 minutes in a low flame until the whole water is evaporated. Switch off the flame.

Step 5

Tasty king Fish Peera Pattichathu is ready.
